The Kids' Lit Quiz™ World Final 2008
The Kids' Lit Quiz is growing in international fame, and the 2008 World Final of the Kids' Lit Quiz will be part of Oxfordshire's celebrations of the UK's National Year of Reading.
The 2008 World Final will be held in Oxford, UK on 10 July 2008 with KLQ National Champions from China, New Zealand, South Africa and UK, plus regional winners Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales.
The Oxford Playhouse will host the KLQ World Final. Over 25 well-known children's writers will be there and 500 school children from local Oxfordshire schools, with teachers, librarians, family and friends in the audience to watch the action unfold. Tickets are free and available directly from the Oxford Playhouse.
The finalists are: Arnold House School, London; Wellington College, Belfast; George Heriots School, Scotland; Truro School, England; Whitchurch High School, Wales; International School of Beijing; Springfield Convent, Cape Town; Cathedral Grammar School, Christchurch, New Zealand.
A Grand Celebration Dinner will take place in the evening in Oxford's ornately decorated Victorian Grade II listed Town Hall.
World Final week
The international teams will be visiting many of Oxford's cultural attractions during their week-long stay as part of the prize for reaching the World Final.
- Monday: Teams arrive, accommodated at Keble College, Oxford. Meet and Greet supper in the Martin Wood Lecture Theatre.
- Tuesday: Guided walking tour of Oxford. Tour of Christ Church College and Tea at High Table with Children's Laureate Michael Rosen. .
- Wednesday: Tour of Oxford Heritage Centre, lunch at La Tasca, talk by Nicola Morgan, and family BBQ with ghost stories at Wheatley Park School.
- Thursday: World Final.
- Friday: Special Prize of Helicopter Simulator Trip for World Champions. Visit to London, Globe Theatre, Houses of Parliament and Jewel Tower and flight on the London Eye.
- Saturday: Visit to Roald Dahl Museum, and C.S. Lewis' house, The Kilns.
- Sunday: Visit to Blenheim Palace. Farewell BBQ with swimming and tennis in English country garden in village of Adderbury.

- 9.30 Author workshops and talks for local schools. Nicola Morgan - John Mason School and Wheatley Park School, Diana Hofmeyr - Faringdon School.
- 11.00 Author workshops and talks for local schools. Alan Gibbons- Larkmead School and Cherwell School, Sarah Garson - St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Bicester.
- 11.00 Rehearsal for World Final teams
- 12.00 onwards: Visiting authors' books for sale in the foyer courtesy of Blackwell's. Authors will be available after the World Final to sign books.
- 12.30 Auditorium opens, please be seated by 12.45.
- 1.00 Lord Lieutenant of Oxford (H.M the Queen's official representative) opens the 2008 KLQ World Final

- 1.25 Teams introduced onto stage
- 1.30 2008 World Final Kids' Lit Quiz. In between rounds some questions will be directed to the audience (children and adults).
- 2.15 approx. Interval of 20 minutes. Refreshments on sale.
- 3.45 approx. Winners and prizes.
- 4.00 Spotlight on visiting authors and book signing.
